Return to Life

When I first came across this title from the book of Joseph Pilates, I cringed, but I did appreciate the work of art, and not until recently could I stop thinking about the phrase “Return to Life.” In this case of movement, it’s got nothing to do with Pilates, nothing to do with me, or any form of methodology.

As trainers, teachers, and therapists, we often forget the most important thing of all. That is, it is NOT about you. Yes, it is not about what a fancy PT you are. It is about your CLIENTS. If you are lucky enough that people entrust you to guide them through their difficulties, overcome fear, pain, and presentations, it is your responsibility to help them move according to their body’s capability. Don’t IMPOSE a fixed method or mindset on an unpredictable living system (the body).

Beside each picture is a story, a person that we know so little of, how much hardship they have endured, their physiological and biopsychosocial factors, and the real “work” of getting that body to be used as much as it is supposed to be, in whatever means, dancing in the street, walking, using a public park’s gym, or just being able to move and live.

Further details about the case will be shared later on my blog.
