Beyond Sequences: Learning to Treat the Root, Not Just the Symptom

Encounter: 11/11/2022.

Singaporean, over 30, office job, female. She booked a flight to Vietnam to visit my then studio for 2 weeks. After assessment, we found her pelvis was uneven, leading to a leg length discrepancy. That, in turn, led to lumbar spine scoliosis, lower back pain, and more. This was a classic cause-and-effect case: the pelvis might have caused the leg to appear shorter on one side or the other way around. She had seen a doctor and was already very aware of her posture.

We trained together with my limited knowledge at the time, but she improved nonetheless. She returned two more times afterward. If this were now, I would be able to help her much more than I could then. I wanted to do a better job, with more time.

This was one of the first cases I encountered in posture correction – a shift from teaching exercise sequences to targeted training and I’ve continued improving every day since. I never want to have to say to myself again: “You could have done a better job with more time.” The eagerness to learn wasn’t for show, but driven by one question: How can I offer better help and service to my clients?
